My home, My say

To help us Create the Learning Disability Housing Plan for Northamptonshire we have set up a project website. This can be found at:-

www.myhomemysay.co.uk

You can click on this picture to go to the website

We are using the website to help us to :-

* Help people follow & join in what is happening to make the Plan

* Help the people making the plan share information with each other, &

* Help those who with Housing issues find some support or information

The last part will get bigger as the project goes on

Using The Website

If you are interested in keeping informed about what is happening please go on the website and register, and have a good look around.

Also if you, or someone you know, needs help with housing or wants to share their experience of finding a place to live then please go to the 'Message Board' (our forum) and have your say or ask a question.

If you want to join in the making of the plan you can see what is happening in the project groups in the 'Meetings & Groups' area or just contact Marion Turner on 01604 237180 or email mturner@myhomemysay.co.uk

Short Breaks Review

Health and Social Care have agreed to work together with

people with learning disabilities and their families to look at

short break opportunities in Northamptonshire (some people call

this respite care)

- We would like to start this work soon and finish by June 2010
- We need to find out what people want
- We need to make sure there is good information so people can choose what they want

We need people with a learning disability and family carers to help with this work.

- People who can come to a meeting once a month in March, April, May and June
- People who can tell us their experiences
- People who have good and interesting ideas about what they want

The first meeting will be held on 23rd March at Shire Lodge 10am – 12.30pm.

If you are interested in being part of the review group
or need further information please contact Kay King

Six Lives Audit of Health and Social Care Services

In the summer of 2009, the Partnership Board paid for a person to come and look at our local health and social care services to see how they are doing.

She wrote a report called Six Lives Audit of Health and Social Care Services in Northamptonshire and here it is.

Click here for the full report

We will use this information and some information we got from our Big Health Check (which Northamptonshire NHS did) and write a plan to make things better in Northamptonshire. When the plan is written we will put it on this website.

Changing Places in the UK

Changing Places are very important to help people access their community and be active members of society.

A changing place is a toilet for disabled people with a changing bench and a hoist (a system that helps a carer to lift the person). There is lots of space, a non-slip floor and a screen or curtain for privacy

Recently, there have been some new Changing Places installed. Click here to read about them.

Easy Read Guide to Deprivation of Liberty

Click here to read the easy read guide about the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) are part of the 2005 Mental Capacity Act and they will be used from 1st April 2009.

Deprivation of Liberty is when someone stops you doing the things you want all the time, this is called being deprived of your liberty. Sometimes people having treatment or care might be deprived of their liberty to keep them safe.

The safeguards only apply to people who lack capacity to give permission for the care or treatment they receive; (this means that they cannot make a decision for themselves)

  • And they are over 18
  • And receive care in a hospital or registered care home
  • And the care they receive deprives them of their liberty
  • And they are not kept there under the Mental Health Act

Care homes or hospitals have a requirement by law to apply to the County Council. or Primary Care Trust for permission to allow the deprivation of liberty to take place.

You can contact the Northamptonshire DOLS service to discuss any queries you may have regarding deprivation of liberty issues and to make a referral. The phone number is 01933 220724 and email address is dols@northamptonshire.gov.uk
